Isover Vario® KM Duplex UV vapor barrier is a specially developed polyamide-based film which, in addition to its vapor barrier function, also has a variable equivalent diffusion thickness (sd), which helps regulate moisture levels in the structure.
Usage
The Isover Vario® KM Duplex UV vapor barrier is suitable for all wall, ceiling, and roof structures. It is particularly useful where it is necessary to limit the escape of warm air from the interior (airtightness) and the stress on these structures caused by moisture migrating from the interior to the exterior. Thanks to its variable = adaptable water vapor permeability depending on the surrounding conditions (temperature and relative humidity of the surrounding environment), this vapor barrier stabilizes the moisture regime of the structure throughout the year. In the summer, it promotes the drying of built-in moisture into the interior. It plays a major role in optimizing the moisture conditions of wooden structures, protecting them against degradation caused by increased moisture (mold). In winter, on the other hand, it protects the structure against increased relative humidity in the interior. The vapor barrier has an adhesive fleece that increases the strength of the film and improves adhesion to wooden surfaces.
These properties are advantageous in new buildings and have a very positive effect in wooden buildings with unventilated and vapor-tight exterior envelope structures. In existing buildings, when their use is changed, they protect the structure against significant changes in the moisture cycle throughout the year, thus eliminating increased moisture stress. The system is advantageous when renovating the thermal insulation and other layers of the existing roof cladding without the need for access from the interior. This means that the vapor barrier can be installed from the outside over the rafters (on the outside of the interior cladding). The vapor barrier is laid parallel to the eaves edge with 100 mm overlaps, glued with Isover Vario® KB1 adhesive tape and fastened to wooden structures with staples. The vapor barrier is attached to metal strips and perimeter masonry using Isover Vario® DoubleFit+ sealant. Isover Vario® KM Duplex UV also contains a special adhesive fleece that acts like Velcro when in contact with wooden rafters.
The Isover Vario® vapor barrier system helps to reduce air exchange between heated and unheated spaces and affects the overall energy balance of buildings. Maximum utilization of variable diffusion permeability can be achieved by using interior cladding with an equivalent diffusion thickness of sd approx. 2 m. The vapor barrier system is not suitable for buildings with higher moisture loads. In such cases, we recommend using a suitable vapor barrier system after consulting a building physics expert. When the conditions of the structural design, implementation, and verification by thermal calculation are met, the vapor barrier has a service life of up to 50 years. It is a recyclable material.
Packaging, transport, storage
Isover Vario® KM Duplex UV is packaged in rolls 1.5 m long. The products must not be mechanically damaged during transport and must be stored in a dry place.
